Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Their nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who are continually supported and developed – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

DementiaUK supplies admiral nurses who not only help the person suffering but also the whole family who find the changes to their loved ones hard to deal with.

WHY?

Local Rev Head Ian Stone contacted us to see if we could help him raise awareness for his fundraiser for Dementia UK.

With his mum suffering from stage 4 Dementia and with the nasty disease taking her and her soul, he promised to raise awareness whilst she’s still able to understand what is going on.

Camera Lady 12’s Dad sadly passed away a few years back and suffered severe dementia towards the end, her mum (my nan) is also suffering with dementia now so with that link and with Ian planning such a fantastic trip to raise awareness – we decided to help.

Ian plans to ride 800 miles from Paignton in Devon to Bilbao in Spain. He will be completing the ride with his two friends Tim & Paul, they will also have a support vehicle with them driven by Richard & Cameron. The journey will also be documented and live-streamed by Cameron over the course of the ride. They are leaving Paignton on 30th June and returning on 12th July 2022.

Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a range of progressive neurological disorders, that is, conditions affecting the brain.

800 miles of grit and determination will require lots of brain power – keeping them going over the 8 days.

“I believe suffering on my bicycle for a week will be easy compared to the devastating effect dementia causes to loved ones and their families day in day out. If the money we raise even makes a difference to one person’s life it’ll be worth the blood, sweat and tears.”

We’ve provided clothing + other bits and pieces but with the Rev Head army backing them and raising a big chunk of cash they’ll be well equipped both physically and mentally to make the journey a success.

Thanks in advance Rev Heads!

Good luck!
